A useful place to begin

The practical questions behind peace of mind

Leaving someone a role in caring for your home is a considered decision. These questions are a useful starting point. For anything specific to your property, tell us what you need and begin with a conversation.

Start with your situation

The type of property, its location and the practical help you need are more useful than a long list of assumptions. Bring the questions that matter to you; the details of a service should be agreed before a booking.

Questions, considered

Useful details for owners making arrangements from another country.

What is home watch?

Home watch means scheduled, agreed visits to observe specified accessible areas while you are away. The useful details are the checklist, visit arrangement and updates you want to receive. It is different from having someone continuously present at the property.

Is it the same as house sitting?

Owners sometimes use ‘house sitting’ to mean looking after a home during an absence. If you mean a resident staying in the home or overnight care, say so explicitly when enquiring. Those arrangements should not be assumed from a home-watch service.

Can you help with my property’s location?

Send the general location and the kind of help required. Service fit needs to be checked for the actual property and task; you do not need to share a full address or access details to begin that conversation.

How often should the property be visited?

Discuss how the home is used, your main concerns and any relevant professional or insurer requirements. Frequency and available scheduling need to be agreed for your property, rather than taken from a general rule.

What happens if a visit finds something that needs attention?

Agree the communication and decision path before visits begin: who receives the observation, who may be contacted and what requires your approval. A useful update distinguishes what was seen from any specialist assessment still needed.

Can someone meet my chosen tradesperson?

Describe the appointment, visitor and access required. That allows the practical arrangement to be discussed. Permission to enter and permission to carry out work are separate decisions.

What will a photo report show?

Agree the relevant areas and questions first. A useful report connects images with locations, observations and open decisions. The reporting page explains the context that makes an update understandable.

Does property care include repairs or emergency response?

Confirm responsibilities, availability and urgent-access requirements explicitly. Neither should be assumed from a general service description. Specialist work needs an appropriate professional and separately agreed authority.

How are charges agreed?

Start with the property and required scope, then confirm charges and any additional costs before booking. Ask how changes, extra visits or third-party appointments would be handled so the agreement is clear.

What should I send in my first enquiry?

Your name, a reply address, the general property location and a short description of the support you want are enough to begin. Keep keys, access codes, alarm instructions and detailed travel plans out of the message.

The practical detail

A closer look at scope and responsibility

Keep the scope, the information you receive and the decisions that remain yours clear from the outset.

Is a visual check a survey?

A visual check concerns the agreed accessible areas and what can be observed. It is not a structural survey, compliance certificate, valuation or diagnosis of hidden defects. Where a technical conclusion is needed, discuss the appropriate qualified specialist.

Does an enquiry reserve a visit?

An initial message starts a conversation. KeyCare covers Greece nationwide, with property care starting from €69/month. A particular visit, ongoing schedule or final quotation is confirmed separately. Ask for the relevant scope and arrangements to be confirmed before relying on them.

What if an area cannot be accessed?

Agree how access restrictions should be recorded and whether further access needs to be arranged. An unvisited room or concealed area should remain a stated limitation; it should not be represented as checked or in satisfactory condition.

Can photographs confirm that everything is fine?

No single photograph can establish the condition of an entire property. A useful image supports a specific observation within the agreed scope. Areas outside the frame, concealed conditions and inaccessible spaces remain limitations. If you need a technical conclusion, raise that need explicitly so the appropriate kind of assessment can be discussed. Avoid interpreting an illustrative photograph or a sample report on this website as evidence about your own home.

What if I already have a contractor or another contact?

Explain their role and the coordination you would like to discuss. Identify who may give them instructions, who approves costs and what information can be shared. Existing relationships do not automatically authorise a new provider to direct work or release access information. A clear division of responsibilities is particularly useful when several people have different parts of a task. The arrangements should be confirmed before practical coordination begins.

Can a family member receive the updates?

Discuss the intended recipients and their roles when agreeing communication. The person receiving an update may not be the person authorised to approve additional work. Make that distinction clear, and agree how changes to the recipient list will be handled. Share only the property information necessary for the agreed purpose. Do not include somebody else’s private documents or contact details in a first enquiry unless you have an appropriate reason and authority to share them.

What should I compare when considering a proposal?

Look beyond the label of a package. Compare the areas included, frequency, reporting detail, access arrangements, exclusions, additional-work process and costs. Ask how an inaccessible area or incomplete observation will be recorded. Confirm which decisions remain with you and whether specialist work would require a separate instruction. These questions make it easier to understand what is actually proposed. Review the service scope guide and bring any unanswered questions to your enquiry.
