Nationwide property care
Access by agreement
Keyholding & authorised property access in Greece
Keyholding in Greece can help an overseas owner arrange agreed property visits and access for a contractor appointment. KeyCare starts with your instructions: who may attend, why entry is needed and what should be confirmed afterwards. Holding a key and approving paid work are separate decisions.

A practical arrangement around your home
Discuss keyholding and authorised access with KeyCare Property. Start with the scheduled visits your home needs and the instructions that matter to you. A carefully defined access arrangement can make an ordinary appointment easier to organise without leaving important decisions to assumption.
The access brief
Make the instruction clear.
Write these six lines down before any key moves, and keep a copy for yourself.
- Who: the person or company expected, and whether they are your own contact.
- Why: the one job the appointment is for, in a sentence.
- Where: the rooms and outside areas that may be entered.
- When: the appointment window agreed with the tradesperson. Your own travel dates are not needed.
- Spending and changes: who, if anyone, may approve extra work or change the instruction, and how any quotation will reach you. You can state that nobody may until you reply.
- Afterwards: what you want confirmed, such as who attended, which areas were entered, whether the job was assessed or carried out, and whether the keys are back with the agreed holder. Ask how that confirmation will reach you.
Ask for attendance, timing and any charge to be confirmed before the appointment.
Permission has a purpose
A key opens the door. A clear brief guides the visit.
02
Make the purpose of every visit clear
An access instruction should answer a few practical questions: who is expected, what they are coming to do and which spaces they need to enter. If the visitor changes or the task expands, the instruction may need to change too.
Take a plumbing assessment as an example. Entry to inspect a visible concern does not automatically approve a repair, a new appliance or access to every room. Stating the purpose clearly helps everyone understand where the appointment begins and where a fresh decision is needed.
03
Think beyond the first handover
Keyholding begins before an appointment is booked. Discuss which key set is involved, how the handover will be recorded and how the arrangement ends. Consider what happens after a lock change, when you return unexpectedly or when you want to withdraw an instruction.
These details may sound small until you need them. Making them part of the initial conversation gives you a clearer basis for leaving someone responsible for access to your home.
04
Close the appointment with an understandable update
The questions after a visit are often straightforward. Did the expected person attend? Did they reach the agreed area? Is another decision required before anything else happens?
A useful update keeps those points separate from the specialist’s findings. Arranging access and assessing technical work are different responsibilities. If a tradesperson recommends a next step, you should be able to see what they have advised and what remains yours to approve.
05
Keep personal access details personal
Begin an enquiry with the general location, property type and access help you need. Save sensitive information for an agreed handling process after the service has been discussed. Keys, alarm details and access codes do not belong in a general contact message.
A little more clarity
Before we begin
Useful details for owners making arrangements from another country.
Can I use my own tradesperson?
Tell us whom you want to attend and the reason for the visit. That is the starting point for discussing an access arrangement around your existing contacts.
Does holding a key authorise work?
No. Access instructions and permission to commission work should be agreed separately, including any spending authority.
Does this include emergency attendance?
Discuss urgent-access requirements explicitly. Keyholding alone should not be read as continuous availability or a particular response time.
